10+ Actors Who Got To Take Their Legendary Looks Home

Costumes play an important role in a movie; many become quite valuable after the movie is wrapped. That’s why movie studios often hold onto them. Not only producers but actors desire to hold them because they want to keep them as souvenirs or pieces of memorabilia to remind them of the time they portrayed a certain character.

While some ask for permission, others have to be a little sneakier in their efforts. We’ve compiled some actors who took interesting movie props home with them. If you’re curious about them, scroll down to see them.

#1. Ralph Macchio still has his Karate Kid headband

Ralph Macchio is best known for portraying Daniel LaRusso in three Karate Kid films. In a 2014 Oprah: Where Are They Now? episode, the actor showed off some Karate Kid mementos and one of them was Daniel’s trophy, which was a central part of the character’s wardrobe. 

Two of these headbands were used on set after actor Pat Morita had the accessory in his pocket and "just decided to put it on [Ralph]" during filming.

#2. Gabrielle Union rocked her Bring It On cheerleading uniform nearly 20 years after playing Isis in the movie

In a 2007 interview with People, Gabrielle shared that her Clovers cheerleading outfit was in her closet. 

Gabrielle wore the uniform again in a Halloween shot that was shared on Instagram two years later. In the photo, her daughter Kaavia James Union Wade was wearing a cheerleader uniform that matched her own. Gabrielle captioned the cute photo, "Brought It."

#3. Ryan Reynolds took his Deadpool suit home

Ryan ultimately made Deadpool after a decade of attempting to move the project forward. According to Cinema Blend, Ryan told MSN he didn't hesitate to preserve his character's costume after the long-awaited film's filming was completed.

The actor said, “I loved wearing it and I have run away with one — I'll probably get into trouble for saying that, but I've waited 10 years to do this movie so I'm leaving with a fucking suit,”

#4. Chris Evans kept his Knives Out sweaters

In 2019, Chris Evans told People that he asked for taking some clothes from the movie Knives Out, where he starred as Hugh Ransom Drysdale. After getting permission, he got all the sweaters from his character’s wardrobe.

#5. Ashley Tisdale keeps Sharpay's High School Musical outfits

Ashley Tisdale had her breakout role as Sharpay Evans in the Disney Channel film High School Music, which became the network’s most successful film of 2006. The actress revealed that she took the first item home for the movie. Despite the fact that Disney tried the best to get some of the iconic outfits back home, the actress didn’t budge. 

“Did I think I was going to wear them on the red carpet? Probably, at the time,” Ashley said of the outfits. “A lot of our clothes are in like, hall of fames, and they didn't have Sharpay's stuff. Disney tried so hard to get the clothes from me and I was like, ‘No, this is mine.’ So, yeah, they don't have any of the clothes from the first movie. I do.”

#6. Henry Winkler still has a very special Happy Days accessory

A piece of television wardrobe is the brown leather jacket Henry wore in “Fonzie” Fonzarelli in Happy Days. The actor donned some jackets throughout the series, and one of them has been in the Smithsonian museum's collection since 1980.

In 2021 The Hollywood Reporter interview, he intented to auction off one of the jackets with some of the proceeds going towards the nonprofit organization, This Is About Humanity. Additionally, he still owns another original Fonzie leather jacket.

#7. Daniel Radcliffe kept his Harry Potter glasses

The Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, revealed that he held onto some items from the movie and one of them was a pair of Harry’s glasses. “... I did keep the glasses from the Harry Potter set,” Daniel said. “I kept one pair of glasses, and I think other little bits and pieces of props that I stole along the way.”

#8. Rue McClanahan got all of Blanche's Golden Girls looks

A clause from Rue’s contract is that she was allowed to take all of her Golden Girls wardrobe items home with her. The clothes were stored for years, and some of them were later sold in 2011 at an estate sale.

#9. Annie Murphy's closet houses her "A Little Bit Alexis" dress

Annie as Alexis Rose performing "A Little Bit Alexis" for Moira and Jocelyn will live long in the memory of Schitt's Creek fans. Annie told Harper's Bazaar in 2020 that she kept the outfit she wore in the amusing sequence, but she has no intention to put on it in real life. 

“I don’t know if Dan [Levy] knows this, but I also took the dress that Alexis wears for her Cabaret audition — the ‘A Little Bit Alexis’ dress that’s a purple baby doll thing, which I will never ever wear, but it was a special scene,” Annie said.

#10. Jennifer Lawrence kept a couple of key clothing items from The Hunger Games

After the movie wrapped, Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss Everdeen, kept two items her character: leather jacket and boots.

#11. Reese Witherspoon got 77 pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes and the rest of her Legally Blonde 2 getups

There was a clause written in Reese's contract that she could keep all wardrobe pieces she dressed up in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde. The actress admitted that she got 77 Jimmy Choo shoes as a result of this contractual agreement.
