Winona Ryder is one of the most popular actresses in the West. But do y’all know that the Stranger Things actress once shoplifted in New York and was found guilty of the same? Back in 2001, Winona Ryder shoplifted at the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Wilshire Boulevard and stole merchandise worth $5,560. She was found guilty of theft and had served 480 hours of community service. She enjoyed a quiet few years following her conviction, but couldn't turn her back on acting for good. Luckily, Winona has starred alongside teen actors Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp on the Netflix smash-hit Stranger Things since 2016.

#2. Dixie Chicks

In March 2003, the American country band Dixie Chicks publicly criticized President George W. Bush and the imminent Allied invasion of Iraq, triggering a backlash. At a concert in London during their Top of the World Tour, the lead singer, Natalie Maines, said the Dixie Chicks were ashamed to be from the same state as Bush and that they did not support the war. The Dixie Chicks were one of the most popular American country's acts at the time.
Dixie Chicks were blacklisted by many country radio stations, received death threats, and were criticized by other country musicians. The backlash damaged sales of the Dixie Chicks' music and concert tickets and lost them corporate sponsorship. A few days later, Maines issued an apology, saying her remark had been disrespectful; in 2006, she rescinded the apology, saying she felt Bush deserved no respect.

#3. Lindsay Lohan

Being under the spotlight is nothing new for Lindsay Lohan, who began working as a child model when she was just 3 years old. On May 26, Lohan was taken to the hospital in Beverly Hills after getting into a car accident, reports CNN. The actress had recently been discharged from the Wonderland Center rehab facility in Los Angeles for undisclosed problems, though the nature of these issues became all too clear when Lohan was charged with DUI, possession of cocaine, and misdemeanor hit-and-run following the incident. If her career wasn't compromised on this occasion, it certainly was when she was arrested on the same charges just two months later, days after another unsuccessful stint in rehab.

#4. Amanda Bynes

Once upon a time, Amanda Bynes was a rising star. But that was a long time ago. The star of "The Amanda Show" and "She's The Man" ran afoul of drugs and alcohol like many child stars before her, but what truly killed her career was her complete and total Twitter meltdown in the weeks after her arrest.
Her 2012 tweetstorm included such claims as how much she wanted rapper Drake to "murder vagina," a suggestion Drake wisely passed on. She also tweeted Rihanna, taunting her that "Chris Brown beat you because you're not pretty enough." She called Miley Cyrus and Jay-Z "ugly" and berated herself for being the same. All this resulted in her being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and twice placed in a psychiatric facility, and her career being placed on ice.

#5. Kathy Griffin

Controversy has helped make Kathy Griffin famous. But then she went too far, with a stunt that, depending on who you ask, was either a poorly presented joke or a violent threat to the life of a sitting president.
In May 2017, Griffin posted a picture of herself holding a blood-soaked Donald Trump mannequin head. CNN quickly canned her from its New Year's Eve broadcasts, and Squatty Potty flushed their contract with her down the toilet. The FBI even investigated her over the picture. Griffin apologized, saying the joke went too far, lamenting, "I don't think I'm going to have a career after this."

#6. Megan Fox

In 2007, Transformers got released. And after watching the movie, most of the men had only two words on their minds: not Optimus Prime but Megan Fox. After starring in two Transformer movies, Fox had this to say about Michael Bay: "He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he's a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he's not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he's so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it's endearing to watch him".
And guess what? In the third part, she got replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Yep, it was the movie’s executive producer Steven Spielberg who told Bay to fire Megan Fox.

Christopher Michael Benoit was a Canadian professional wrestler. He worked for numerous pro-wrestling promotions during his 22-year career including most notably the World Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Entertainment (WWF/WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in America, as well as for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in Japan.
Benoit had murdered his wife in their residence on June 22, 2007, had killed his 7-year-old son on June 23, and on June 24, had committed suicide, reportedly hanging himself using equipment in a weight-training area inside the residency basement. Later research undertaken suggested that depression and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a condition of brain damage, from numerous concussions Benoit had sustained during his professional wrestling career were both likely contributing factors to the tragedy. Due to his murders, Benoit's legacy in the professional wrestling industry has remained incredibly controversial and heavily debated.

It's hard to believe that it's been 18 years since Ashlee Simpson's infamous lip-sync fail on Saturday Night Live occurred. It was 2004 when Simpson performed her first song "Pieces of Me" with no problems but the second performance was a different story. The vocals for "Pieces of Me" began playing again and Simpson panicked and started to do an awkward hoedown dance before she just walked off stage during the song.
The worst part was when she joined Jude Law on the stage at the end of the episode and "apologized" but she really blamed the band for the whole thing stating that they, "started playing the wrong song and I had no excuse so I had to do a hoedown." Simpson's chance to make a career for herself by latching onto her sister's fame ended tragically in one night and her career never recovered from the incident.

It came as a big shock to the world when this cancer survivor, cycling legend, Lance Armstrong was stripped of all seven of his Tour de France titles, back in October 2012. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency published a report with testimony from 11 of Armstrong's teammates stating he used illegal drugs.
Armstrong wasn't alone in his doping antics either. He allegedly received help from the team's coaches and doctors too. His fall from grace was only getting started at this point when sponsors like Nike dropped him from campaign ads. The damage was done and it left plenty of people disappointed including his Livestrong cancer charity. He continued to deny doping until an interview with Oprah Winfrey in January 2013.

#10. Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods instantly became a disgraced figure after a nasty fight between him and his wife, Elin Nordegren who exposed the legendary golfer as a serial cheater. After the fight hit the tabloids, many women came forward claiming they had sex with Woods. The incident caused him to step out of the spotlight and away from golf for months. Sponsors, including Gatorade and AT&T, dropped Woods as his name was soiled with scandal.
In January of 2010, Woods entered rehab for sex addiction in Mississippi. And in February, he publicly admitted he cheated on his wife, letting down his family and fans. By August 2010, Woods and Nordegren had reached a divorce settlement, leading his career to a steady decline.

#11. Bonus Exception: Kanye West

Kanye’s career must have nine lives. The man manages to kill his career with controversial tweets and statements on a seemingly daily basis. Jumping the stage during Taylor Swift’s VMA speech? Professing his love for Donald Trump? Yelling at disabled crowd members? It’s all wacky, despite his actions never actually completely destroying his career. In fact, some would say Kanye only makes controversial statements when he has an album to promote.
