Used to "Existing Solely For A Prince", Snow White Will Be "Much Stronger" In The Live-Action

The fact that traditional princess tales, like Snow White, center mostly on the prince who would save them, has drawn a lot of criticism throughout the years. Disney has recently been making princesses who can survive without princes. Princesses like Tiana, Merida, and Moana have their own dreams and objectives that they would like to achieve on their own, without the aid of a prince. Disney is updating its princesses to reflect more modern viewpoints, yet princess tales continue to be very popular.
The 1937 film—which is loosely based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale — tells the story of a jealous, evil queen who wants her stepdaughter killed so she can be “the fairest in the land”. However, in the live-action version, it is claimed that Snow White will be changed into a ‘much stronger” version.

1. Classic Snow White will be changed

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Zegler revealed that Disney was going to change the traditional Snow White.

“There’s not much I can say about it besides the fact that Snow White has constantly been criticized — even though she’s the original Disney princess and we love her so much — but criticized for existing solely for a prince, existing solely to be rescued. And I think that our director, Marc Webb, and everyone who’s working on this film has really taken her narrative and turned it into something that’s a lot stronger. And I’m very, very excited to be able to bring that to life.”

Though most people were rightfully excited to see the actor tapped to play Snow White, some trolls on social media criticized the casting of a Latinx woman. Rachel quickly shut that down in a now-deleted tweet. In a statement, director Marc Webb said, "Rachel's extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale."
