Rare Albino Turtles Make You Believe They Are Fiery Mythical Creatures In Fictions

Though albino is a rare phenomenon, it affects a variety of species, ranging from mammals, birds, and amphibians to humans. Due to the absence of melanin, albino animals often have white hair, pink skin, and pink eyes, which make them look incredible. However, have you ever seen albino turtles? If you think they are as white as snow, you’d better scroll down to see a completely different appearance of those unique animals.

Unlike other species, turtles have diverse forms of albinism. Because one pigment still remains in albino individuals’ bodies, they can be either yellow or red.

Their stunning appearance sometimes makes them look like a fire-breathing dragon or a mysterious creature coming from fairy tales.

Albino turtles lack the cover with camouflage colors, so they are easily detected by predators. As a result, their lifetime is short, making it harder for us to see them.

Though albino turtles’ life span is shorter than normal turtles, they live longer than other albino species thanks to the protection of their solid shells.

Hope is an albino turtle with a heart beating outside her body. On the day she was born, many felt heartbroken after reading her story on the internet.

Her owner, Aqua Mike, continued looking after her, and he was looking forward to her fourth birthday later this year.

“I was immediately in love. It was like seeing an exotic animal that I couldn’t have ever imagined existing.” Mike shared.

“There are different types of turtles with albinism,” he explained. “Some may appear to be a solid yellow without many patternings on their turtle shells, like a red-eared slider, but the pink belly side necks are known to have pink on them when they aren’t albino, so that color stays in the albino variant as well!”

Though these little turtles could be adorable pets, they are totally different from usual pets such as cats and dogs.
“They are very interactive and will beg you for food, they will pose for the camera and everything, but they are not meant to be handled,” said Aqua Mike.

According to Mike, these albino guys love showing off their beauty and uniqueness, but they aren’t into cuddling or being handled. “I always get asked what’s a good turtle I can get for my kids one that can be handled. Don’t get me wrong they can be handled, but they are no dog or cat. They are happiest when you leave them alone!”

“Albino turtles are amazing animals. They do require a bit more advanced care as when they’re small, it may be difficult for them to find food in their tank because of their impaired vision,” he added. “This requires them to be moved to a smaller feeding container where the food is much more accessible just to ensure that they are eating enough.” Taking care of albino turtles sounds like a great responsibility, so the owners must be patient and have lots of love for them.

“However, once they reach 3-4 they are much more efficient at finding food in their enclosure and do not need to be moved outside of the tank to be fed in a separate container.”

Another difference between normal turtles and albino ones is their response to humans. “Albinos are also a lot more observable than normals. A normal turtle may get shocked or scared when it sees you and this causes them to swim away & hide.”

While turtles generally avoid anyone trying to approach them, albino individuals are more familiar with humans, so people can observe them in natural activities. “The albino doesn’t feel this same sort of threat in your presence especially because you’ve been handling them to feed them for so long. They act a lot more natural and it gives you a chance to observe these rare animals and study them even better.”
