Why Was TV Show Treadstone Season 2 Canceled?

Treadstone (2019) is based on the Bourne franchise which includes several film adaptations of Robert Ludlum’s novels. Since the first season premiered, many fans have anticipated the sequel season. Unfortunately, it is not going to happen anytime soon.

#1. What is the first season about?

Jason Bourne is a well-known character who is the leading character in many movies. The Bourne franchise, therefore, is also a successful franchise. There are 5 movies titled this American Foreign Service Officer working in the Far East. Those are The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Bourne Legacy (2012) and Jason Bourne (2016).
Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy is a PlayStation and Xbox video based on this popular character. 
USA Network’s spinoff called Treadstone focuses on the Treadstone program and other related characters. The first story taking place in the 1970s is about John Randolph Bentley, a CIA Operative. The KGB captured and brainwashed him for a main purpose of doing missions and assassinations for the Soviets. In the present, the second storyline is about the operatives who were turned into sleeper agents by the CIA's program, Treadstone. They are all connected to the upcoming movies in the franchise in the future. 

#2. Why was season 2 canceled?

Despite the franchise’s legacy, Treadstone did not perform well critically or commercially. The hype for the series was gradually decreasing at the later episodes. There were 1.84 million viewers for the plot episode. Surprisingly, the season finale got over 370,000 live viewers. The decline in the viewership could be the main reason for USA Network deciding not to produce the second season. At the same time, the cable television channel also stated the discard of the horror spinoff series The Purge.

#3. Is the Bourne franchise over?

Although director Paul Greengrass confirmed that he would no longer work for another Bourne movie, there are chances that the sixth movie might premiere in the future. Well-known action franchises such as John Wick or The Matrix have returned after a long period of time. Furthermore, it is still a successful film series with many royal fans and essential awards, including the Academy Awards.
