'Scary-Looking' Pitbull Wears Propeller Hat To Improve Her Adoption Chances

Only five minutes before Bonnie was scheduled to be put to death at a local shelter, Grandma Betty's Animal Rescue rescued her. Soon after Bonnie was saved, Lili Follett volunteered to foster her and rapidly developed a deep affection for the cute pit bull.

Follett said that no dog is sweeter or more loyal than Bonnie. “She loves meeting new people and is so trusting. She will immediately plop her head on your lap. She would follow me around my apartment like a little duckling — never more than a few feet away from me, no matter what I was doing! She would also wait for me to wake up every morning and walk over to me to get her morning pets."

Bonnie would be such a blessing to any family who adopted her, and Follett set out to find the perfect adoptive family for her, only to have her fears and misunderstandings met.
“Before the hat, most people would give us dirty looks and purposely step off the sidewalk to walk around us, versus just walking past us,” Follett added. “Most people were visibly nervous or unsettled when they saw her. Seeing people’s reactions to her made me realize that she would never get adopted without a drastic change.”

There's no denying that Bonnie is a sweet dog, but many people just can't see it - so Follett conceived a plan to change that.
Follett got Bonnie a propeller hat to make her more approachable and to allay people's unfounded anxieties. Then again, who could be scared of a dog wearing a propeller hat? Follett started taking Bonnie out in the hat, and people's reactions changed almost immediately when they saw her wearing it.

Follett claimed that when people see Bonnie wearing the hat, they smile, laugh, and unquestionably try to interact with her considerably more.  Almost every time she takes her for a walk, cars slow down, and people shout out their windows about how adorable she is. More parents are allowing their children to play with Bonnie. "Many more people would approach us and ask to pet her, which allowed her to start an excellent conversation about dog fostering and adoption.", said Follett.Bonnie is the same dog whether she wears a propeller hat or not, but it helps people recognize the actual dog underneath the hat by looking past stereotypes.
