Netizens Slam Redditor For Not Leashing His Well-Trained Golden Retriever

Undoubtedly, dogs are humans' best furry friends due to their intelligence, loyalty, friendliness, and sweetness. However, even the most benign dogs could turn aggressive and sometimes dangerous when they are provoked. Therefore, leashing dogs in public areas has become compulsory in some countries. This regulation is adopted to ensure both human and dog safety in case the animals have unexpected behaviors.

Though most residents understand the importance of leashing a dog, the Reddit user known as u/Impressive_PP in the thread below thinks it is unnecessary to put a leash on their well-trained dog.
The poster was walking with their golden retriever in their neighborhood when a man ran toward them. The neighbor kept a few feet distance and asked the dog owner to leash their dog. He tried to persuade the Redditor that an unleashed dog could pose a threat to those with fear of dogs or dog allergies. Unfortunately, the owner insisted that it was not the animal’s fault.

The poster pointed out that their dog was so well-trained that it did not react to a stranger like the neighbor. They ensured that their obedient dog would never hurt anybody.

The neighbor could not imagine such a response from the dog owner, so he thought it was because the poster was not in the mood at the time. Nonetheless, the Redditor refused to put the dog on a leash and made fun of the man’s threat to call the HOA.

The thread has gained over 6,000 votes and 2,400 comments. Unsurprisingly, most agreed with the neighbor that even the most well-behaved dog should be leashed in open areas. Many also shared their terrible experiences with unleash dogs.

Some roasted the poster for their selfish and conservative personality. Obviously, they were inconsiderate and thoughtless when ignoring other people’s safety. Furthermore, instead of reflecting on their fault, they refuted every comment that disapproved of their manner.

Do you think the poster was in the wrong? In your area, is it illegal to walk a dog in public places without a leash? If not, do you think such regulation would benefit the citizens? If you are a dog owner, do you leash your dogs when you go out with them?
