The original poster was a woman with her Mumsnet account name
randomdogfriend. She posted on the popular topic "
AIBU?" (standing for "Am I being unreasonable?") to reveal her conflict with the female neighbor sharing the same backyard fence. She was not a fan of that woman's yappy dog because he was so aggressively loud when he heard them. When the OP had just had a newborn girl, she had quarreled with the neighbor about her dog making noises and disturbing the child and warned that she would report the canine uproar. However, nothing changed after the argument as they no longer interacted.

A year after the quarrel, when the OP and her girl had been getting used to the dog barking, the neighbor woman suddenly suggested letting her dog befriend them so that he wouldn't have to woof and yelp at them. The OP rejected it immediately and claimed it wasn't her responsibility that the dog was yapping incessantly but his owner's. Plus, because the OP still remembered how rude and ignorant the neighbor had been to her, she didn't want them to be acquaintances.

In the comment section, people were disputing so excitedly that it soon had turned into an endless answerless discussion. The ones agreeing with the OP reckoned that she totally had the right to say no to patronizing a pretty dangerous dog and a person who had been impolite and irresponsible and still didn't apologize to her properly. It was unreasonable to ask the OP to press her emotions down and make her compromise when it was against her will.

On the contrary, the ones disagreeing had an allegation of accusing the OP of being mean and harsh. They expected her to help the neighbor in changing the dog's behaviors. It was the time for the OP to let, whatever had happened, go with the past. If she wished peace for her and the child, she should try to connect with the people without letting her unreasonable anger interfere.
