Legolas - more than an elf in Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson introduced us to a whole fictional world called Middle-earth. Since then, there have been so many fantasy Movies.and TV series but this trilogy forever stays as a symbol. In Middle-earth, there are hobbits, orcs, men, dwarves and the everlasting elves. Legolas. portrayed by Orlando Bloom, is an irreplaceable character who is more than a charming elf in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit

After the success of the trilogy based on the same titled book series, 10 years later, Peter Jackson put his works on making The Hobbit into another trilogy. Once again, the audience was brought back to Middle-earth with familiar characters: Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo, Elrond, Saruman, Galadriel,... and Legolas. Legolas was one of the most favored roles of Orlando Bloom and set up his popularity in Hollywood. In Lord of the Rings movies, Legolas is a member of The Fellowship of the Ring. He’s also best friends with Gimli - a dwarf. He shows his amazing archery skill in battle and he’s able to move rapidly and quietly as an elf. 
The Hobbit tells the story that happened before The Lord of the Rings. In The Hobbit book, Legolas wasn’t present in the storyline. Being one of the most loved roles, he was added to the movies to attract more fans to the theaters. For that reason, many Tolkien’s fans were not very happy with this decision at first. But everything changed when the movie came out, fans were really excited to see Legolas back. It helped to remind and bring back memories from The Lord of the Rings. In the prequels, Legolas is younger and less mature. He does even show slight hatred towards the dwarves since his dad, King Thranduil, is not really fond of the dwarves,

The Silvan elves
Legolas is a Silvan elf or a Wood-elf. Silvan elves somehow differentiate themselves from other kinds of elves. “Less wise, more dangerous”, The Hobbit. These elves live mainly in the woods, isolated from other races in Middle-earth. In The Lord of the Rings series, there was not much screen time for the audience to get to know more about Legolas’ family. In The Hobbit, Peter Jackson gave us more chances to understand more about Wood-elves. His home is the Woodland Realm located deep inside Mirkwood.
Compared to other elves’ costumes, the Silvan elves’ costumes are darker in color and mostly in brown, green but not white or blue. And somehow they are considered more selfish. Isolated from the world, living deep inside the wood, Silvan elves care more about protecting their people and their land. Therefore, Legolas, a prince of Woodland Realm, chose his life as an adventurer and a hero, breaking this stereotype.

He joined The Fellowship of the Ring to support Frodo to carry the One Ring to Mount Doom, Mordor to destroy it. He contributed his best alongside the companions: Gandalf,  Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli and four hobbits: Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. Legolas also battled in many important battles: Minas Tirith, Helms Deep, The Black Gate, The battle of five armies (in The Hobbit) and many other small battles along six movies.
As we might all see, Legolas is one of the individuals who saved Middle-earth. This great character, also with the movies, is globally recognized and still mentioned nowadays on social media. Orlando Bloom stated that Legolas was his most defining role despite not being paid really well at that time.
