Eternals Casts and Characters: Who are they?
Eternals is one of the latest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe introducing a brand new race of superheroes - the Eternals. They arrived on Earth 7,000 years ago as the Celestials fight the Deviants - outer space creatures who hunt animals and humans on Earth. It is hard for the fans and the audience to catch up to entirely new superhumans so let’s get it started!
Eternals cast
Eternals cast includes superstar Angelina Jolie (as Thena) to Korean hunk Don Lee Ma Dong-seok (as Gilgamesh) to global pop star Harry Styles (as Eros) who made a cameo in the After Credit. Other than that, there are 7 other eternals who are Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Druig (Barry Keoghan) and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry). Each of them tells a different story other than fighting the demons. Makkari is the first deaf superhero meanwhile Phastos is the first gay superhero in the MCU.
Despite the fact that the movie has a lot bad reviews claiming it’s one of the worst Movies that Marvel has ever made, Eternals is still an important chapter to get to know more about the Multiverse and other races in the universe.
Eros and Thanos
Thanos is a mix of the Eternals and the Deviants since there was some strange mutation in his genes. This made him completely differentiate from the ‘good’ Eternals starting with his look. Since his genes contain the Deviants’ genes, everything in Thanos's mind is about evil thoughts and death.
Created by the ancient Celestials, the Eternals believe themselves as the high beings, fighting for the right. In fact, both the Deviants and the Eternals are just tools for Celestials to create more Celestials by consuming and destroying planets. Ajak - the Prime Eternal was the first one who was against this idea after millions of years serving the Celestials. And for that, she was killed by Ikaris. She chose Sersi as the next leader for the team because Ajak knew Sersi was really fond of Earth and its human beings. Thanos, is the opposite, does not serve the Celestials or peace. Eros, who made the appearance at the end of the film, is Thanos's younger brother. In comics, he is definitely a nice guy who got nothing to do with his brother’s snap!
Ebony blade, a hint of a new character
It is still too early to confirm that the Eternals are going to be parts of the Avengers. In the movie, other than the mighty superhumans, there is a hint of another character which is Black Knight. We are at phase 4 of the MCU when there are so many new characters and universes introduced through movies and TV series. So furthermore, it’s uncertain to tell who will form the new Avengers team since the old ones are already retired or… dead.
Eternals is now available to stream on Hulu or Disney+ in case you have missed it in theaters. Chloe Zhao did a good job demonstrating the Eternals and their stories on having immortal lives as humans.
