45+ Comics Made Of Dark Jokes That End Up With Unexpected Twists

If you’re just too bored of comics that possess usual pure plots and familiar characters of old drawing styles, you really need to look for the fresher works. Certainly! Why don’t you try out some comics that are funny and dark at the same time? Of course, there won’t be any unacceptable factors, but only the amusing and twisted ones are involved. Trust us! Having a dark sense of humor is much more fascinating than you thought! That is why we invited you to join the imaginative world of Ryan Hudson, one talented cartoonist renowned for his super “darky” but funny comics series, Channelate!
Ryan Hudson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the U.S. and started to publish his comics in 2008. Recently, the artist was invited to several online interviews and received questions about his comic-making journey. We’ve already collected the information that is believed to be helpful for any of your curiosity. Let’s explore Ryan’s stories to see how passionate he is about picking up his touch pen and deploying ideas on his tablet!
Back in 1998-1999, Ryan Hudson’ interest in making comics was blazed up thanks to a cartoon site that he found on the Internet, JoeCartoon.com. But when it came to dark humor, he listed out “The Perry Bible Fellowship”, “Thingpart”, and “Cyanide and Happiness” as the three key inspirations of his web-comic making process. Although he doesn’t pay as much attention to his characters’ looks as he’s supposed to, his simple drawing style literally specializes his vibe, engraving his works deeper in everyone’s minds. This somehow reflects his dark sense of humor that he believes himself, as a kid, to be inspired by the legend South Park, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Simpsons.
At first, Ryan Hudson didn’t intend to make his entire living from “Channelate”, yet he soon realized that the comics really brightened his future with amazing freelance projects. “In a lot of ways, the comic has been my demo reel and resume.” In 2020, the artist partnered up with Chase Suddarth, an American animator, to make his brainchild animated. His undying passion for comics is one useful piece of advice for us to never give up doing what we truly love.
The artist felt joyful working for the animated show “Cyanide and Happiness” as he could learn a lot from them about making web animation. He was hyped up so much just by watching their videos for a decade that he chose to accompany them for quite a long time. “It was a lot of on-the-job training that I will be putting to use on my own work forever.”
We’ve listed out 50 of Ryan’s funniest comics below. Also, the comics have been classified and uploaded on both his personal website - Channelate, and Youtube channel - ExplosmEntertainment. If you enjoy his works, check them out!
