According to The Huffington Post, Nakajima discovered in a 2009 study that individuals could link persons and their pets only by glancing at photos of their faces. The "mere-exposure effect," or familiarity, is what gives rise to the likeness. We, humans, have a tendency to adhere to what we know, so when it comes to selecting a canine life mate, we choose canines that, well, remind us of ourselves.
There is a subtle, subconscious effect that causes many individuals to select dogs with similar facial features.
