In the wonderful world of Disney animation, a lot of the characters are created not only with their imagination but also with real-life prototypes. Disney often uses real-world references to give characters a more realistic look and action. They observe body movements, expressions, and even clothes. They also often include personality traits that the reference model introduces or habits.
Animators don't just use people as a reference. Because Disney has a lot of characters that are animals, animators also have to study their behavior and movement. So it appears that animators have to be an expert in all professions as they delve into human psychology and animal behavior in order to truly convey it on-screen.
