16 Over-The-Top Performances In The Marvel Movies So Far

Have you ever been in a movie theater and thought to yourself, "Wow, that actor is too good for the MCU" while watching MCU films? The MCU has excellent actors, and several of its flicks include outstanding performances. However, the performers occasionally appear to be overqualified for their parts.
Not only did their help to deliver the storyline vividly, but they also made people feel sympathetic or obnoxious. As a result, the audience can have both senses of interest and support for the movie. I can name Tony Leung In 'Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings', Djimon Hounsou In Guardians of the Galaxy' And 'Captain Marvel', or Garry Shandling In 'Iron Man 2' And 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Below are the 16 over-the-top performances in the Marvel movies so far.

1. Anthony Hopkins In The 'Thor' Movies

Hopkins was a perfect choice for Kenneth Branagh and the rest of the Thor production crew when it came to casting an actor as Odin. It turned out that the Welsh actor didn't get much screen time in the first three Thor flicks. Is he fantastic? Yes. Is he a little out of place in this role? Yes, unfortunately.

2. John C. Reilly In 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

John C. Reilly has starred in films like Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Wreck-It Ralph, and he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Chicago. He also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy as Nova Corpsman Rhomann Dey, a minor character.

3. Tilda Swinton In 'Doctor Strange'

Swinton's portrayal of The Ancient One in Doctor Strange required a serious actor, yet bringing in a serious talent was a bit of a surprise for Marvel. It did, however, pay off.

4. Tony Leung In 'Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings'

Calling Leung a Hollywood novice grossly underestimates his significance in the global cinema industry. Not only because he originated the role in Infernal Affairs that was later recreated as The Departed, but also because he is Hong Kong cinemas equal of Leonardo DiCaprio. Leung gives the millennia-old Wenwu an emotionally charged element that comes through both when he slaughters his enemies and when he mourns the death of his true love.

5. Peter Dinklage In 'Avengers: Infinity War'

Peter Dinklage has been receiving critical acclaim since 2003's The Station Agent, but it wasn't until his breakout role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones that he became a household figure. Dinklage, a four-time Emmy Award winner for supporting actors in a drama series, knows how to maximize his screen time.

6. Djimon Hounsou In 'Guardians of the Galaxy' And 'Captain Marvel'

It's not easy to get two Academy Award nominations. Djimon Hounsou is a wonderful actor, yet as Korath the Pursuer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is practically wasted. In both Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, his little role as Korath has given him minimal screen time.

7. Angela Bassett In 'Black Panther'

Her portrayal of Ramonda, T'Challa's mother, in Black Panther is no exception. Was Angela Bassett's performance as Wakanda's Queen Mother absolutely necessary? Not especially, but it does make the film better.

8. Robert Redford In 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

And, while his role as Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn't insignificant, it doesn't call for an actor of Redford's stature. Even more incredible is the fact that Marvel Studios was able to pull him back into the fold for a cameo in Avengers: Endgame.

9. Laurence Fishburne In 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'

Add Ant-Man and the Wasp to that list, since Fishburne played Bill Foster, a minor character in the 2018 sequel. Marvel didn't need to cast a talented actor like Fishburne as Foster, but they did, and now we're here. I'm just curious if he'll return for the third installment.

10. Rachel Weisz In 'Black Widow'

Her award-winning pedigree gives her MCU supporting role even more emotional weight. Weisz's Melina Vostokoff has the shortest screen time of the four main characters in Black Widow. Weisz plays Natasha Romanoff's mother figure, a hyper-intelligent spy battered down by forces beyond her control, and she does an excellent job of revealing the repressed emotions she has for her position in the Red Room and in Natasha's life.

11. Sylvester Stallone In 'Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2'

One of the strangest things that have happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far is seeing Sylvester Stallone appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Stallone was one of the most well-known Hollywood actors in the 1980s and 1990s, well known for his roles as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo.

12. Garry Shandling In 'Iron Man 2' And 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

Shandling's Stern was essentially a Hydra baddie out to kill both Iron Man and Captain America, and while Shandling was terrific in the character, he could've been given more to do in his two appearances.

13. Walton Goggins In 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'

Hannah John-Ghost Kamen is the major enemy in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Walton Goggins' Sonny Burch is the Ant-Man and the Wasp's secondary adversary. A terrible past and outstanding character moments are given to one of these characters. The other is a last-minute addition.

14. Annette Bening In 'Captain Marvel'

When you require a character to play both the Supreme Intelligence and the MCU's version of Mar-Vell, it's only natural to choose an established actor. Nonetheless, Annette Bening, a four-time Academy Award candidate, is plainly punching below her weight in Captain Marvel.

15. Christopher Eccleston In 'Thor: The Dark World'

Christopher Eccleston has proven to be a competent actor capable of handling a wide range of roles in projects ranging from Doctor Who and The Leftovers to Gone in 60 Seconds and 28 Days Later. However, no actor on Earth could have made the weirdly subdued MCU version of Malekith's work - a figure who hardly resembles his comic book counterpart.

16. James Badge Dale In 'Iron Man 3'

Eric Savin, the villain in Iron Man 3, is nothing more than a superpowered bully. While Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery chews the scenery and Guy Pierce's Aldrich Killian devises all the evil schemes, James Badge Dale's Savin does little more than punch and snarl.
