Johnny Depp, 58, has sought to paint ex-wife Amber Heard as a volatile spouse who abused and demeaned him. He has sued his ex-wife Ms. Amber Heard, 35, for $50 million over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post saying she was a victim of domestic violence. Mr.Depp has denied any abuse. Ms. Heard, 35, has sued him in return, with a $100m counterclaim.

Depp and Heard met in 2009 and were married from 2015 to 2016. After the romance of their first year together soured, the pair argued regularly, he said. Now, they are accusing each other of acts of physical violence during their relationship and have both denied the other's claims.

The trial, which started on April 11 and is expected to last around six weeks, has already generated some unforgettable moments. Alejandro Romero, a former doorman of Depp and Heard's previous apartment building, presented recorded evidence last week from inside his car, where he was observed vaping and driving at one time. Heard's lawyer described it as "bizarre." Judge Penney Azcarate described the incident as a "first." "I just got to say, I've never seen that before. I've seen a lot of things, but I've never seen that," Azcarate explained.
