Gorilla Mom Bonds With Mother And Newborn Baby At Boston Zoo In Sweet Video

All moms have maternal responses or ‘instincts,’ and this is no exception to moms from the animal kingdom. Just like humans, animals also have an innate maternal instinct that impels them to protect and care for their offspring, even other species. That much became evident during one woman's trip to Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, where she and her newborn baby connected with a mother gorilla.

Emmelina Austin and her husband were visiting the zoo with her 5-month-old son Canyon when they noticed one of the gorillas looking at their sleeping newborn son. The gorilla was completely taken with the baby boy. She looked intently and put her hand against the glass. At one point, she even tried to pet Canyon’s face through the glass and hold his hand.

“She kept looking around the corner of the cave, and I was like, ‘She’s looking at Canyon,'” Emmelina said. For well over five minutes, she just sat there watching [Canyon], just staring at him, just so lovingly,” Emmelina said.

The video was filmed and uploaded on YouTube by Emmelina’s husband, Michael Austin. “This gorilla is Kiki. She recently had a baby named Pablo. My wife, Emmelina, also had a baby five weeks previous to this video. Kiki had brought her baby over to us and shared a connection with my wife and our baby boy Canyon,” Michael captioned the clip.

“When I walked into the zoo that day, I never could’ve imagined that we would have had that experience. It was so beautiful, and we walked out just over the moon," Emmelina said.
