The man was identified as Carlos Fresco. He took his 10-year-old labradoodle Monty for a hike at the Brecon Beacons mountain range in South Wales. The two visited this place several times together.

Fresco said that Monty had been battling leukemia for 18 months and that made him unable to walk. So when the dog started to slow down and became ill, he decided to take him to their favorite location one more time. With the aid of a wheelbarrow and Fresco's friends, Monty reached the top of the mountain and enjoy his final journey with his beloved owner.

Monty passed away at the foot of Fresco’s bed on June 21, shortly after this final stroll. Fresco thanked all the wonderful people who offered support on Monty's final hill walk. He extended his thanks to everyone who loved the dog over the last ten years, too.

Fresco said: "Although he was weak, he enjoyed all the fuss and attention received by so many well-wishers. People on the hills were so kind and equally so sad at his deteriorating condition. In fact, total strangers asked if they might share in pushing Monty on his last journey — many total strangers shed a tear as we all love our little four-legged friends dearly."
