Polish Pen Farthing Risk His Life To Save Hundreds Of Abandoned Pets That Were Stuck In War-torn Ukraine

After Putin declares war on Ukraine the security in Ukraine is seriously threatened. Many people are forced to flee their homes, often leaving their pets behind. They don't want to leave their furry friends. They have no other choice. And the result is these family pets (dogs, cats, hamsters,..) have to struggle for life. They might starve to death, get injured, or have mental health problems.

Witnessing those heartbreaking situations, Konrad Kuzminski, a Polish charity worker, decided to risk his life to rescue these animals. Since the outbreak of hostilities last week, Konrad and his colleagues from the animal charity Dioz have saved 100 dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and even chameleons. He also corrects fake news and uncorroborated information on the internet that Ukrainians are killing abandoned animals.

All the shelters in Prezemysl have been working overtime to take back the animals to their center. Konrad and other charity workers are almost living at risk. They have to speed across the border without having to stop for long. Konrad himself once spent the night in his van because he had overrun into the curfew.

Konrad remembered a heart-wrenching scene that he could never forget. A Ukrainian guy handed his dog in tears to Konrad and his colleagues and asked them to look after him until the war is over. He didn't want to leave his dog but war separated them away. His dog could only be safe when staying with Konrad's team.

Konrad and his team strongly urge people not to leave their animals behind. Just like humans, they are also scared, stressed, and need to be protected.
