First Look At “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power” (13 Pics)

Waiting for the first teaser trailer that will be shown during the Super Bowl, Vanity Fair has released the first official images of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the multi-season drama series that will be available exclusively on Prime Video in various languages in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide from Friday 2 September, with a new episode available every week.

For the very first time, this brand new series from Prime Video will bring the heroic legends of the mythical Second Era of Middle-earth history to the small screen. This epic journey will take place thousands of years before the events narrated in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, both written by English writer J.R.R. Tolkien and adapted by director Peter Jackson. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will take viewers to a distant era where great powers were forged, kingdoms ascended to glory and fell into ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung on the thinnest of threads, and one of the greatest villains coming out from Tolkien’s pen threatened to plunge the whole world into darkness.

Beginning with peace, the show follows a group of characters including both familiar faces and newcomers as they prepare to face the feared return of evil in Middle-earth. Traveling through the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, the magnificent forests of the elven capital of Lindon, the spectacular island of the kingdom of Númenor and many other incredibly dangerous places, these personas and their epic adventure will build a legacy that viewers can hardly forget.

On the occasion of announcing the title, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay explained: “This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. ‘The Rings of Power’ unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men,” said showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. “Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

In addition to the mentioned duo, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be led by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, Sharon Tal Yguado, and producers Ron Ames and Christopher Newman. Wayne Che Yip is co-executive producer and director alongside J.A. Bayona and Charlotte Brändström.
