Disney+ Announces Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Series With New Poster, Premiere Date And Teaser

Star Wars fans can already fill the schedules for the May 25th launch of the eagerly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi show, which Disney has unveiled in a promotional picture. After a quickly deleted tweet from Disney Streaming Enterprise Program Manager Brandon San Giovanni, which wrote, "Our very own Obi-Wan wi (sic) be saying "hello there," on Disney+... May 2022," it was claimed last week that the show will arrive somewhere in May. Many enthusiasts saw this as a hint that Ewan McGregor's comeback as the renowned Jedi Master will capitalize on May 4th's "Star Wars Day," however it appears that this has been passed up for whatever reason.

Obi-Wan Kenobi features Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time since Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Originally envisioned as a film to sit alongside Solo and Rogue One under the "A Star Wars Story" label, when the series of movies was canceled, it appeared that Obi-Wan's story was doomed to be gone forever. With the introduction of Disney+ and a slew of new Star Wars-related productions, Obi-Wan Kenobi was revealed in August 2019, with McGregor stating he will reprise his role as the lead character.
nullThe show will take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and McGregor may not be the only one rejoining the saga after a long absence; Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role as Darth Vader. During filming, McGregor was cited as remarking that seeing his old co-star again has been "the most wonderful thing of all." Meanwhile, LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the show will include the "rematch of the century" between the two characters, which people have been waiting to witness for over two decades.
