Sony Reveals New Details On The Special Effects Of "Spider-Man: No Way Home"

The third Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe saga is still in theaters and continues to break different records. It is now only one step away from exceeding $ 1.7 billion at the international box office, a frightening figure given that No Way Home has not yet arrived in China, a potentially very profitable market for such films.
Recently, Sony and Marvel Studios have removed the limitations of spoilers, leaving space for the crew to open up about the filming process. For example, in a public interview, Andrew Garfield has talked about his return as Peter Parker, leaving the door open to a possible future for his character. And according to various rumors, a triple interview with the three main faces of the film will also be released in February, in addition to an additional trailer that will show the trio in action.

In the meantime, Sony has decided to make public the first photos with the three Spider-Men in conjunction with an interview published on VFX magazine Beforeandafters. These photos refer to the final battle on the Statue of Liberty in New York with the spider team portrayed by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire fighting against three villains Electro (Jamie Foxx), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), and the Lizard (Rhys Ifans).
This is also an opportunity to give the floor to Chris Waegner, Visual Effects Supervisor at Imageworks who was responsible for the effects of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

During the interview, Waegner talked about the work done on the film and beyond, given that the man had previously worked on the special effects of other Spider-Man films with Maguire and Garfield.

"Having worked with each one of the actors and each one of the directors, each of them brought their own style to the franchise and to the big screen for the fans," he said. "There will be children seeing this film with Tom Holland as Spider-Man for the first time, while there are folks who are older, maybe comic book fans, who originally saw Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man on the big screen, or years later saw another installment with Andrew Garfield in that role."

In addition to talking about the work done on Holland's suit - the most advanced and also the most "problematic", Waegner also focused on the challenges encountered by the team to give the right imprint to each representation of Spider-Man, aided by the fact that each actor was able to shape it in a different way.
"Early on it was quite challenging because their suits are pretty similar in tonal values and since our sequence takes place at night this only exacerbated their individual readability. It became pretty obvious once we started lighting shots what we had to do," Waegner shared.

"We focused our efforts on really bringing forward each of the Spider-Men's physical personalities or their individual spider-style, if you will – how they swung, how they shoot webs, their physical proportions when they achieve an iconic pose," he added.
