The production of Alligator Loki and the End of Time in episode 5 is revealed in a new Loki behind-the-scenes film from Industrial Light & Magic. The show, created by Rick and Morty alum Michael Waldron, was the third Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure on Disney+ following WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Loki was the alternative version of the mythological god of mischief who fled during the events of Avengers: Endgame, but is quickly apprehended by the Time Variance Authority and enlisted to assist in the investigation of a string of murders perpetrated against TVA agents.
Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Sasha Lane, Jack Veal, DeObia Oparei, Richard E. Grant, and Jonathan Majors round out the Loki cast. The show debuted on Disney+ in June 2021 and quickly became a major hit for the streaming platform, which is the most show launch in its first week and surpassing both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Though planning on Loki season 2 began before the show’s launch, Kevin Feige has confirmed that production will not start until later this year or in 2023.
Following the conclusion of another MCU series, Hawkeye, Industrial Light & Magic has released a new Loki BTS footage. The featurette, which concentrates on the visual effects work for episode 5, unveils the construction of the End of Time zone that the TVA and the fan-favorite Alligator Loki send Loki variations to. Check out the behind-the-scenes footage below:
Loki episode 5, “Journey to Mystery,” was one of the most creative for the streaming show, introducing numerous variations of the god of mischief. While Grant’s Classic Loki and Jack Veal’s Kid Loki garnered a lot of attention for their character design and personality, particularly the latter having slain his variant of Thor, Alligator Loki drew the most of attention. Though the episode speculated that he was only an alligator disguised as a god of mischief, people bonded with the figure, with some writing appealing soundtracks for Alligator Loki and others making their own comics and films with backstories for the reptile variant.
Alligator Loki wasn’t the only significant attraction from Loki episode 5, with the development of the End of Time Void and the final confrontation between different variations and the cloud-like creature known as Alioth stirring reactions as Classic Loki sacrificed himself to save Hiddleston’s protagonist and Di Martino’s Sylvie. It would also keep spectators interested moving into the season finale, which brought Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains to the MCU in order to build up to the entrance of Kang the Conqueror soon.
