Marvel Movies Accounted For 30% Of The 2021 Box Office

Despite the pandemic, Marvel Studios' films continue to perform exceptionally well at the global box office and have become the main reason for the substantial increase in the total collection. In fact, in 2021 only, Marvel movies (including the collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures) accounted for 30% of the total box office for the year.
This comes after cinemas in 2020 suffered one of the worst stages in their history with most premieres going exclusively on streaming platforms. When it comes to Marvel, however, the only movie to do so was The New Mutants. And in 2021, the studio returned with a total of five movies: Black Widow, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Notably, that 30% of the total box office is a significant increase from the 18% that already dominated in 2018 when Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp premiered.
Specifically, Black Widow grossed $ 379 million in theaters, being the only Marvel title to be released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming platforms. Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings grossed $ 432.2 million. Eternals fell slightly behind at $ 401 million, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage gained a total of $ 501 million. Lastly, Spider-Man: No Way Home is still in theaters and has grossed $ 1.372 million so far.

In other words, the first four movies of Marvel Studios have grossed more than $ 3 billion, and as we already mentioned, the third installment of Spider-Man is still in theaters and will undoubtedly go further.
