In 2002, Jack Whittaker - a businessman from West Virginia, became the largest lottery winner in history at that time with a Powerball prize worth nearly $315 million.
He was a successful businessman with a net worth of millions of dollars. However, since becoming a super-rich man, tragedy has repeatedly struck him. After winning the lottery, he retired and dived into gambling. Despite the fact that Whittaker was smart enough not to be deep in debt, his $300 million still vanished into the thin air because of various calamities.
Just 5 years after winning $315 million, Whittaker declared bankruptcy. In an interview with ABC News, Whittaker said his only wish was that he never won the lottery. Without that huge amount of money, he would still be a hard-working, successful businessman, living happily with his family.
In 2016, Whittaker's house was completely burnt out. Not purchasing insurance, he lost all of his meager assets. Last year, he passed away in solitude, ending a life of many misfortunes since winning the lottery.
