A man from Suzhou, Jiangsu province, eastern China, became famous on Chinese social media as well as Facebook and Twitter just one night after netizens found him incredibly alike to the richest billionaire in the world, Elon Musk.
Notably, commenting on his "long-lost twin", Musk said on Tuesday: "Maybe I’m partly Chinese."
Musk's reply immediately attracted thousands of likes and comments. Most think this is a smart answer when China is a particularly important market for Tesla.
The video of a man with an identical appearance to Elon Musk was posted on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok and went viral in recent days. This man is standing next to a luxury car and occasionally smiles for the camera.
His looks and even expressions are almost identical to Musk's, until he opens his mouth and speaks Chinese with a local accent.
Surprised and delighted to see Musk's "copy", netizens have come up with all kinds of names for the Chinese guy mentioned above, including "Elon Mosaic", "Clone Musk" or even a Chinese name, "Yi Long Musk".
However, some argue that this video is most likely the product of "deepfake". This is a technology that allows users to edit the face and mouth of the character in a video or a certain photo using artificial intelligence and uses some open-source algorithms to process. In other words, you can "match" one person's face to another's body in a photo or video.
An international user joked: "Anything, including Elon Musk, can be found in China. Maybe you can even 'buy' Elon Musk on Taobao."
In response to the accusations, the "Elon Musk clone" said in his latest video that he will be doing a livestream Sunday after his video has been retweeted more than 10,000 times.
In fact, the "real Elon Musk" is very popular in China, where people admire a tech entrepreneur with a unique path to success. Chinese businessmen often look up to him as an inspiration. Some businesses even brand their products as Ma Si Ke, the Chinese transliteration of billionaire Elon Musk's name.
In response, Elon Musk always keeps his respectful attitude. In September, he spoke via video at an online conference, describing how Tesla set up a data center in China to store digital records collected from its production, sales, services, tolls and other activities in the country.
