DC's "Blue Beetle" Movie Announces New Release Date

Blue Beetle, a movie being developed for HBO Max based on the same-name DC character, has finally had an official release date. Accordingly, the film is expected to land in theaters in August 2023, which means it's no longer an HBO Max exclusive as planned before.

As DC fans already know, Blue Beetle will focus on the adventures of Jaime Reyes, a Latin American boy destined to take on the identity of the well-known superhero and become his third incarnation. Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner, this character made his debut in the 2006 book Infinite Crisis # 3 and, unlike his predecessors, received his powers via an alien scarab.
Previously, that blue costume was worn by Dan Garrett, the original Blue Beetle who appeared in a variety of works during the Golden Age of Comic Books (1938 - 1956), and by Ted Kord during the Silver Age (1956 - 1975).

With a screenplay written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcoce, Blue Beetle will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto, who is known for his 2020 hit Charm City Kings. Soto himself had expressed all of his enthusiasm in being chosen to direct the first superhero movie starring a Latin American protagonist.
"It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC. I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can't wait to make history together," the director shared in a statement to TheWrap.
Last but not least, it will be Xolo MaridueƱa - fresh from the success of the Cobra Kai series - to lend his face to Jaime Reyes in this awaited project.
