Cats are meat eaters, plain and simple. The protein contained in meat helps them to have a strong heart, good vision, and a healthy reproductive system. However, that’s the theory. In real life, there are always exceptions.
One such case was found in Finland where a cat named Mauri frankly showed that he preferred a plant-based diet, especially cucumbers. His owner, Heli, said that this special hobby was a result of the cat’s curiosity about all food.
“Ever since Mauri was a kitten he has always been very curious about any food I am preparing and usually he gets a taste of some cheese or meats. My usual sandwich has cucumber slices on top of it so eventually, he would be curious about that too and since I know cucumber is safe for cats to consume so I would give him a little bit of it every now and then.”
Mauri, the unusual cat has recently gone viral on the Internet. His Instagram of 112K followers is a place his owner can share pictures of the cat enjoying and even munching on cucumbers. All of them are very lovely, some are even transformed into artwork to be printed on T-shirts.
The cat has been on TV and the news several times, and he has always brought excitement to the viewers. Mauri also has a Youtube page, in case you want to watch his videos.

“Sometimes Mauri likes to crunch on iceberg lettuce too, but obviously not as much as he loves cucumbers.” the owner added.
But is it the cucumber that the cat only loves or does he like all types of vegetables? To find out the answer, Heli made an experiment. She hid Mauri’s favorite vegetable amongst countless courgettes on a plate. Then, she brought it to him. Quickly, Mauri could sniff off the cucumber and found it in practically no time!
Heli didn’t think cats loving cucumbers was weird because she used to have a dog who also loved vegetables.
“90% of the time we just chill at home. He lives like a normal house cat. In the summer we love exploring the parks and forests nearby. We also travel by train oftentimes to visit my family who lives a 4-hour train ride away.”
