10 Disney Projects That Promise To Make Worldwide Box Office Splashes From 2022 To 2023

Disney has been known as one of the top-grossing movie studios, with universally popular animated movies and live-action remakes. And especially from the company's first release, Snow White in 1937, to the most recent, Pixar's Luca in June 2021, there are so many films that have generated a reputation for quality and enjoyment. Most recently, Walt Disney Studios continue making fans restless when releasing a series of trailers about huge projects coming to theaters.
The company has always prioritized animation narrative in all of its film and television productions, so it's no surprise that you find a slew of future animated Disney films in the works. Many animated films will be released in the future, with locales ranging from a fantastical South America to New York City's American Museum of Natural History, Ocean Avenue, and even distant worlds.

#1 "Turning Red" March 11, 2022

"Turning Red" follows a 13-year-old girl named Mei Lee as she navigates her life as a teenager who transforms into a gigantic red panda anytime she gets enthused about anything. The film is expected to be Disney's first animated release in 2022.

#2 "Lightyear" June 17, 2022

The version human of the astronaut of the Toy Story franchise's Buzz Lightyear toy is explored in this second Pixar short. Chris Evans (the MCU's Steve Rogers) provides the voice of Lightyear. There's no word on a specific plot yet, though one may hope that the "real-life" astronaut is a little smarter than the toy modeled on him.

#3 "Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers" 2022

The squeaky chipmunks will be played by John Mulaney and Andy Samberg in Rescue Rangers. This will be a half live-action and a half animation film.

#4 "The Bob's Burgers Movie" May 27, 2021

"The Bob's Burgers Movie" is an animated musical comedy based on the cartoon sitcom Bob's Burgers. The movie was supposed to hit theaters in the summer of 2020, however, it was postponed because to COVID-19.

#5 "Indiana Jones 5" June 30, 2022

From 2012, it was widely assumed that "Indiana Jones 5" would be made at some time, and that prediction came true in 2016 when the company confirmed intentions to make another Indiana Jones film. Unfortunately, it has been postponed on several occasions. The film was scheduled to be released in 2022, however, it has subsequently been pushed back to 2023. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones 5, which is written and directed by James Mangold.

#6 "Peter Pan and Wendy" TBA

Because Disney is making a brand-new live-action adaptation of the 1953 animated film, there's a lot more to the Peter Pan story to tell. Director David Lowery, on the other hand, is confident that the remake will achieve something distinctive, although he's not sure how.

#7 "The Little Mermaid" May 26, 2023

The live-action "The Little Mermaid" has a release date after concluding filming in July 2021. Additionally, when manufacturing began in late 2020, there were further delays. When The Little Mermaid arrives in theaters in the spring of 2023, fans will finally be able to see it. The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy and is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by Jane Goldman and David Magee.

#8 "Aladdin 2", TBA

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Disney is working on "Aladdin 2". Disney has been examining stories from One Thousand and One Nights, the source material on which the original Aladdin was largely based, to come up with new ideas for the sequel. That implies any Aladdin sequel, is unlikely to be inspired by the original 1992 animated mega-hit

#9 "Cruella 2" TBA

"Cruella 2" is apparently already in the works. Although director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are expected to return, nothing is known about the sequel. Given the Cruella post-credits sequence, the sequel is expected to bring us closer to the events of 101 Dalmatians — but this is just speculation for now. Emma Stone will almost certainly reprise her role as the main villain.

#10 "Lion King prequel" TBA

"The Lion King prequel" is in the works, with Moonlight's Barry Jenkins replacing Jon Favreau as director. According to Disney, the music will be created by Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, and Nicholas Britell.
