Just like humans, elephants have feelings and may form strong bonds that last a lifetime. Elephant parents are very protective and caring. They protect their babies from dangers and teach them how to live in the dangerous wild. When a baby or the most vulnerable is threatened, the family will close ranks and push the young into the middle to protect it.

Recently, a wildlife photographer named Peter Delaney was lucky to witness the sweet moment an elephant family trying to protect their baby from a bull elephant. The huge and angry animal kicked the baby and tried to separate it from its mother. When the newborn elephant shrieked, all the herd instantly surrounded it, reaching out their trunks to give reassurance to it. They showed tenderness and told it that it was safe and secure.

"It was a wonderful moment as my wife Nicolinah and baby son Neo, 3 years, were in the car with me as I photographed the family of elephants protecting their newborn. At times they were upset when the bull was kicking the baby elephant, his shrieks and cries affected us all. They asked me to leave the sighting as they struggled to deal with the events. Fortunately, the herd rallied around the baby, allowing me to capture “Bonds of Love.” And we left feeling happier," Peter Delaney shared.
