Given that Joseph Nowak was a kid of the 1990s, Bill Watterson and Gary Larson immediately spring to his mind as the usual examples. Despite the fact that they sparked his interest in the form, Dan Piraro and his art have served as his primary sources of inspiration. Nowak is delighted to have access to such a powerful and active player in the game since Dan is still creating new art and even responding to his emails. The artist is also a major fan of Moebius and Hergé and specializes in creating one-panel comics with situations that are either mildly frightening or strange and humorous. He started creating cartoons in 2012, and it appears that he has never stopped.
For Nowak’s comics, there is a wide variety in terms of production time. It takes more time when he rewrites dialogue or moves characters. He occasionally gives up on a gag after spending more than an hour on it and was eager to get his work published in a newspaper when he first started putting pen to paper, whether it was a local or national publication. Only a few years later did the artist transition completely to digital by purchasing a touchscreen computer for himself. He loves silk-screening, needlework, and art markers, as well as India ink. He creates his cartoons on a computer, though for other works, he still uses traditional media.
In 2013, Nowak started an Instagram page after initially posting on Tumblr. Both offline and online, the reviews are positive. Finding a novel, humorous, and non-verbal notion is interesting to him.
