Capturing The Killer Nurse Review: Stream Or Skip?

Searching for Capturing The Killer Nurse review? Here we go! Netflix's current fixation on serial killer stories is at an all-time high. Two more seasons of Ryan Murphy's serial killer anthology series based on the Jeffrey Dahmer series were announced recently. The Watcher, based on the true story of a New Jersey family who stalked an unknown individual, was also renewed for a second season. Why Did They Kill Off Grace In Manifest?
The disturbing documentary Capturing the Killer Nurse, filmed by Tim Travers Hawkins, follows the life and career of a nurse named Charles Cullen, who murdered patients during his professional duties over several decades. This documentary comes shortly after the release of Tobias Lindholm's The Good Nurse, starring Eddie Redmayne as Charles Cullen. Netflix has established a self-perpetuating loop in which the narrative of a serial killer must be portrayed either through a fictionalized drama or an informative documentary.

The documentary immediately looks into the unexplained fatalities under Cullen's care, as detailed in the book The Good Nurse by Charles Graeber. Cullen worked as an RN for 16 years, bouncing between nine different hospitals during that time, with no particular significance placed on the reasons for her frequent moves. After receiving medication under his supervision, individuals quickly died of heart failure.
Medicines were stolen from the hospital, and no one seemed to notice or report it. His confession, made after his arrest in December 2003, stated that he had killed about 29 patients in the same way because he couldn't bear to see them in anguish. However, his coworker and friend at Somerset Medical Center, Amy Loughren, refutes that claim. Those that Cullen murdered had been making rapid progress and were on the verge of being released from the hospital. Therefore, his assertion that he was a ruthless murderer was false.

Amy Loughren, who becomes the process's main voice of reason, said that Cullen was also a great nurse and helped her out when she was sick at work. But Cullen's demeanor abruptly shifted when Loughren, in a conversation wired by the two detectives Danny Baldwin and Tim Braun, questioned him about his deeds during what was supposed to be a light lunch. Loughren recognized that this individual was very different from himself. "It wasn't blackness or a monster; it was just nothingness," she explained.
Cullen is currently serving 11 consecutive life terms in prison. He admits to killing 29 people, but experts estimate that number to be closer to 400. Capturing the Killer Nurse's central mystery is how the killer evaded justice for so long. Cullen's haven was the system's willful blindness to his presence within it, which was motivated mostly by a fear of notoriety and the poor reputation that would inevitably follow. However, Tim Travers Hawkins's documentary focuses more on the inquiry than the serial killer's background.

Cullen's past, including his history of animal mistreatment, is only hinted at. There is no clearer illustration of how he evolved into a completely heartless guy. Hawkins, along with co-writer Robin Ockleford, is more interested in recreating the hospital scenes, complete with shadowy figures hiding behind curtains, tracking hospital rooms, and the readings of the codes set to ominous background music, which turns the chilling true story into a trite dramatization.
As if they were less concerned with providing us with a linear account of events, the timelines are scattered throughout the text in various places. However, the film by Lindholm, starring Jessica Chastain as Amy Loughren, is considerably more concentrated and fulfilling in its naturalistic representation of the events. In both cases, it's shown that Cullen never expressed regret or explained his behavior.
Capturing the Killer Nurse rightly focuses on the immorality of the healthcare system, which so covertly withheld Cullen's identity for commercial gain. The healthcare officials paid to protect human life are revealed to support a serial killer in this chilling documentary by filmmaker S. Craig Hawkins. In the end, it's a closed system that won't meet your gaze.
