Watching T’Challa’s sister Shuri deal with her brother’s death and rise to power as the new Black Panther in Wakanda Forever is both a moving memorial to its late star and a joyful adventure. Boseman’s legacy is significant, and the film pays tribute to him in several ways, including a touching burial scene and a melancholy montage toward the conclusion. How Many End Credits In Black Panther 2

Only one post-credits scene in Wakanda Forever happens about halfway through the credits (after Rihanna’s emotional “Lift Me Up”). In this scene, Shuri pays Nakia a visit in Haiti, where Nakia has been living and working as a schoolteacher. Nakia and T’Challa’s son, the Wakandan princess’s nephew, met his aunt for the first time during their visit. Nakia reveals that she has been secretly raising T’Challa’s son here since the late king wanted him to be shielded from the politics and pressures of Wakanda.

The young man was born Toussaint, but like his father, he also goes by the Wakandan name T’Challa. T’Challa, of course, is a tribute to his late father and also sets up a future where the young kid can someday follow the traditions of his family and take over the title of Black Panther. As for Toussaint, he is honoring the great Toussaint Louverture, who was instrumental in starting the Haitian Revolution.

Louverture, born into slavery on a sugar plantation in the 18th century, became a famous military strategist and eventually led the only successful slave insurrection in modern times. (He was considered the first Black superhero of the contemporary era by historians.) It’s a welcome departure from the typical Marvel post-credits scene, which wraps up with a joke or a big casting announcement.

In contrast, Wakanda Forever takes a deeply poignant approach, with the scene as both an emotional tribute to Boseman and a potent glimpse into the future. Although Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed a sequel to Wakanda Forever, the credits roll with a little card promising (in a very James Bond–esque manner) that “Black Panther will return.” We’ll have to wait to find out when and how, but the film’s final sequence guarantees that Wakanda will be around for quite some time.
