What The Titanic Movie Would Look Like If These Actors Didn’t Miss Their Chance At The Audition

Titanic movie is still adored by fans all across the world more than 20 years after its release. According to Cheat Sheet, the blockbuster epic made $2 billion in global earnings, and it was the highest-grossing picture of all time until 2008 when Avatar (also directed by James Cameron) took over. Following their appearances in Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet who played star-crossed lovers Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson have both had successful careers.
Before Titanic, both Leonardo and Kate were prominent actors although starring in several movies. But the movie gave them household names in Hollywood and gained thousands and thousands of followers. Cameron is “notorious” as a fastidious director. So the casting for roles in Titanic takes ages and very carefully. From the small to the lead roles, many actors try but fail to impress the director. For that, many fans wonder if it was not Kate or Leonardo, how did Titanic go with other stars?
Today, in this post, we list out popular names who tried the roles of Titanic movie. From Jack, Rose, and Cal to even the elder Rose, many A-lister stars were borderline playing them. Scroll down to check them out.

Caledon "Cal" Hockley is the main antagonist of Titanic. He is the billionaire steel tycoon's son, and he boards the Titanic with his fiancée, Rose DeWitt Bukater, to go to New York and inherit his father's fortune.
Billy Zane successfully delivers this role. Before him, the actors cast for this character include Rob Lowe, Pierce Brosnan, Rupert Everett, Hugh Grant, Molly Brown, and Matthew McConaughey.

#2 Molly Brown

Many Kathy Bates fans adore the character of Molly Brown. However, another actress may have played Molly Brown. Reba McEntire, a country music artist, was the director's first pick. And the singer agreed to play the part. However, the production's start date was pushed several times, and eventually, Reba was forced to embark on a tour that she couldn't cancel. This is how Kathy Bates got the role of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," and she was fantastic in it.

#3 Cora

Lindsay Lohan gained recognition when she was just a child. But she could have had her film debut even sooner because she was considered for the role of Cora in Titanic, the poor parents' third-class daughter. Lohan's red hair, on the other hand, worked against her. Rose and her mother were both born with red hair. As a result, Cameron decided to cast a girl with dark hair.

#4 Rose DeWitt Bukater

Now it is the female lead role. Kate Winslet became a household name when she portrayed Rose DeWitt Bukater. This character is so intertwined with Kate that we can’t imagine how it was played by other actresses. But the list of stars casting for this role is unexpectedly extended.

Uma Thurman is one of the most potential actresses for this role. At this time, Thurman was among the brightest Hollywood stars thanks to the success of the movie Pulp Fiction. Despite failing to land the lead role in Titanic, she had strong performances in Gattaca and Batman & Robin in the same year. In particular, she also became a household name when starring in Kill Bill a few years later.

Another candidate for Rose is Jennifer Aniston. She auditioned for the role of Rose shortly after her starring role in "Hackers." Her absence from this role didn’t affect her career much, as she went on to win her first Academy Award in 1999.
Winona Ryder, who co-starred with Johnny Depp in the film Edward Scissorhands, may have also played Rose. Another Depp co-star, by the way, was considered for the role of Rose. Angelina Jolie was the one.

Along with Jenifer and Winona, many other A-lister stars tried this role but failed, including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Connelly, Rachel Weisz, Kate Beckinsale, Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, and even Madonna. They’re lost the role for many reasons.

#5 Jack Dawson

The role of Jack Dawson is officially given to Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor has had a plethora of impressive roles, yet Titanic Jack seems to be his cherry on top and spread his name widely, around the world.
It turns out that James Cameron had the option of choosing a different actor to play Jack Dawson. Many actors were in the running to play the part. The director must have concluded that none of them could compete with DiCaprio's charisma.

Before trying for the role of Caledon Hockley, Matthew McConaughey also tried for the lead role. He claimed that he had progressed past the audition round and had proceeded on to screen tests with Kate Winslet, which he thought went well, but McConaughey was never awarded the role. Fortunately, Titanic was not McConaughey's only opportunity at stardom; he won Best Actor for his performance in the 2013 drama Dallas Buyers Club.

Christian Bale was another actor who auditioned for the role but was unsuccessful. He even referred to Leonardo DiCaprio as his sworn enemy. The performers are all the same age and have competed for parts numerous times. James Cameron did not choose Bale because of his British accent. But Christian repaid his rival by landing the lead role in American Psycho, where Leo was one of the favorites.
In addition, Johnny Depp declined the part of Jack himself. He read the script and found it uninteresting. The actor was immensely popular at the time and turned down numerous roles that would subsequently become iconic.

Many famous actors from the late 1990s auditioned for the role of Jack. It's remarkable how they all have various appearances. Tom Cruise and Macaulay Culkin, for example, might have also played Jack. And it's difficult to find two more polar opposite personalities.

Brad Pitt was also a contender for the lead role. At the time, he was drenched in glory and hailed by reviewers for his role in the film 12 Monkeys. Jared Leto was another candidate. He was just starting as an actor in the 1990s, yet he appeared in a few well-known films.

#6 Elderly Rose

Even the role of Elderly Rose has more than one actress trying to cast. When it came time to locate an actress to play the elderly Rose, Cameron looked to retired actresses from Hollywood's Golden Age. Fay Wray, who played King Kong in 1933, was his fav. But when the director saw Gloria Stuart, he knew she was the one. There was a link between her and Winslet's spirits. Stuart, by the way, was much younger than her character, so makeup artists had to work hard to make her appear like a 101-year-old lady.
