10 Actors Who Can't Stand Their Movie Costumes

After hearing these actors who can't stand their movie costumes explain their reasons for hating these outfits so much, we kinda feel bad for them. Seriously, these outfits might look badass on film but they are a real pain in the ass in real life. Just imagine having to shoot 10 hours straight in the hot climate zipped up in super tight latex armor. Yeah, no thanks. We prefer comfy T-shirts.
Some of these outfits seem like they are designed to make the actors who wear them feel embarrassed, and others even cause pain and discomfort physically. So let’s find out what these actors who can't stand their movie costumes have to say about their iconic looks and why they hate them so much.

1. Scarlett Johansson And Her Black Widow Attire

Scarlett Johansson might love her role as the famous spy Black Widow, but she isn’t a big fan of her costume in the movie. According to the actress, the suit was super-hot and extra tight. She had to squish herself into this costume to put it on. Johansson later described it as a wet suit and to her, it was “like wearing sweaty pajamas.”

2. Tom Holland And His Spiderman Suit

Tom Holland admitted that his Spiderman suit was “so unbelievably uncomfortable.” He struggled a lot with his superhero costume. To make sure nothing was revealed, he only had a thong underneath, which did not feel great at all. The biggest issue was staying hydrated since the mask didn’t have a mouth. The only way he could drink water between takes was through a plastic tube that was put through a hole in the eye socket.

3. Chadwick Boseman Can't Breath In The Black Panther suit

Chadwick Boseman also didn’t have a great feeling about his Marvel superhero suit. The actor said that the suit was “not breathable” and admitted that he was scared of running out of air in his costume. It was extra bad during hot days, but his patient pulled through.

4. Sean Astin And His Look As Samwise Gamgee In The Lord of the Rings

There are two things that make Sean Astin dislike his look as the hobbit Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings franchise. The first thing is the huge traveling backpack, and the second thing is the iconic hairy hobbit feet.
The backpack was the worst. Not only was it heavy and big AF, but Astin also had to wear it "for 15 or 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, for 2 years." And the hobbit's feet only added to his miseries.

5. Rebecca Romijn Couldn’t Stand the Nudity of the Mystique Costume

Rebecca Romijn is one of the actors who can't stand their movie costumes due to how embarrassing they are. Her costume as Mystique in X2: X-Men United was absolutely stunning, but she was mostly naked in it. Her most private body parts were just covered with prosthetic pieces.
The poor actress kept getting anxious about her costume and constantly had to check with the cast that nothing inappropriate was shown. Her panic attacks got so bad that director Bryan Singer had to bring her some white wine to help her unwind and go on shooting the movie.

6. Miley Cyrus And All Her Hannah Montana Outfits

Miley Cyrus opened up about her Disney days and how Hannah Montana affected her mentality growing up. She was constantly put under pressure of looking cute and pretty like how a pop star should be, which had negative effects on her self-image.
Looking back at her Hannah Montana outfits, Miley described herself as a “fragile little girl playing a 16-year-old in a wig and a ton of makeup.” In real life, the singer isn’t a fan of Hannah's long blonde hair or her glittery tight outfits either.

7. George Clooney Felt Embarrassed About His Batman Costume

George Clooney is another actor who feels really embarrassed about his superhero costume. His Batman suit is a really tight costume with nipples designed on it, so it’s pretty understandable. “Batman was just constantly cold I guess,” the actor jokingly said.

8. Benedict Cumberbatch Felt Uncomfortable In All Of His Sherlock Suits

Behind Benedict Cumberbatch’s charming looks in the BBC’s Sherlock is a lot of struggles. The well-cut suits he wore were so tight around the waist that he found it difficult to breathe or even digest. These outfits later became so iconic that Cumberbatch had to stop wearing similar certain elements of his own wardrobe in real life to avoid being instantly recognized as the detective.

9. Anne Hathaway Still Has Nightmares About Her Catwoman Suit

Anne Hathaway looks great in her Catwoman costume, but she does not feel great at all. She even described it as “a psychological terrorist.” It was so difficult for her to fit into the outfit that she had to spend a whole year dedicated to it. “I went into the gym for 10 months and didn’t come out,” she said in an interview.

10. Patrick Stewart's Costume on Star Trek: The Next Generation

Patrick Stewart's costume on Star Trek: The Next Generation was probably the worst movie costume on this list. It was so painful for him to wear that his chiropractor said that they should "slap a lawsuit on Paramount for the lasting damage done to your spine."
To keep the "smooth, unwrinkled look" of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the Lycra suit was deliberately made a size too small. It put a hell of a strain on Stewart's neck, shoulders, back, and chiropractor.
After reading these stories of these actors who can't stand their movie costumes, it’s perfectly understandable that they hate these outfits so much. However, they aren’t the only ones who suffer in their suits. Many other actors also have unpleasant memories of their most iconic movie attires, and probably some nightmares too.
